Fresh Eggs?

I've always wondered if there is a way to tell if your eggs are fresh or not. We always have some in the fridge and they seem to be in there for a bit too long so we end up throwing them away (and boy do I hate waste!). So this will be our new way to tell moving forward.

This is from The Kitchn, the cooking site from Apartment Therapy.

Place an egg in a bowl of water.
If the egg lies on its side at the bottom, it is very fresh.
If the egg lays upright on the bottom, it is still fine to eat, but should be eaten very soon, or hard boiled.
If the egg floats to the top, do not eat. Discard it in your compost bin.

Why this works: Eggshells are very porous, and an egg's shelf life diminishes as more air enters the shell. The more air that enters the shell, the more buoyant the egg becomes. There you go!

Potty Training

Everyone is having kids, or about to (simone, ginnie) so I can't help but notice kid's stuff everywhere I look. I'm constantly needing to buy gifts so i am spending far too much time on kid web sites. I hate lotsa plastic, especially when it looks tictac (as caroline would say), but as Lyndsay is potty training Grace, and Gwen, i am sure you/mum are about to try again with Phoebe at the beach, this looked kinda fun. In an ugly way. A little reward for the young ones.

Beautiful

Aren't these flower sculptures devine? I have suggested Nick get one for the reception of his office which is currently being done up (and nearly completed). I actually want one for the apt, but think we should wait until we do it up (ha ha!). Problem is, they are from a florist in LA. Not sure if they deliver. And no doubt expensive. You like or think they are yucky?

Easter

Wow. So quickly already. The lambs are made of marzipan (yuk) and are crazy looking (quite horrendous) but I thought they were appropriate for the occasion. They are actually from a semi-famous Italian bakery round the corner from Lyndsay. The chicken peep picture just looks cute. Happy Easter for Sunday

Chicken Mushroom and Bacon Pie

Nothing really special about this one except it only takes 30 minutes from start to finish. I love a good pie, and puff pastry is yummy. From Nigella Express.

If I could sew

This looks cute doesn't it. Little felt objects that are sewed straight on to a card. Nice thank-you cards or something. I can't sew and don't have a machine, but, if i did...

This has sherry in it. I didn't have any so just added some lemon juice. Quite yum too. Definitely will be making it (actually both) again.
