Slumdog Millionaire

We saw this last night. Very cute. Mum, you would love it so you have to see it. I did a quick search and it looks like its playing at Chermside. About a kid from the streets who gets to go on 'Who wants to be a millionaire'. Won't give more than that away.

Tasmania

I seem to have holidays on the mind at the moment. We got back from BA yesterday. Great time, amazing place, but bloody hot. Will fill you in on that trip when I down load some pictures. I have always wanted to go to Tasmania but have been put off because we don't seem to have the time when in Oz and also it is meant to be sooooo polluted. I was just reading something in G magazine (love it, stole it from the Qantas lounge) about staying in Tasmania, saying its beautiful but it was ruined by the 30 + logging trucks that zoomed by their house. On a positive note, this place looks a treat, and a serious contender for our next trip Down Under. 3 bed, sleeps 6 (but no kids) and around 700 a night which seems reasonable to me. Likey?

Pen

This is a photo of Pen doing a bit of ballet for me. Looks like a little angel. She's not looking at me because she was looking at her own reflection in the glass door in front of her!

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone. We are off to BA tonight and I am so excited. Just can't wait. Awful weather here. Raining and snowing earlier, so hopefully that wont cause us problems later. Promise to take lots of photos for posting in Jan.

Images are from Time Warner Center, just by Central Park. We went for lunch at a great place called Bar Boulud and popped in for a bit of a shop. It's where the Mandarin Oriental hotel is too.

Only in Dubai

It's hot in Dubai, averaging 40C (104F) and often hitting 50C (122F) in summer. Perhaps tourists visiting this desert locale don't check this out before they book their junket (or the rules about what you can do on the beach Green bikinis are okay, right?). Or perhaps if you can afford to stay at the new Palazzo Versace you expect nature to be bent to your will. You expect cool sand. That is what Soheil Abedian, founder of the hotel, thinks:
“We will suck the heat out of the sand to keep it cool enough to lie on,” he said. “This is the kind of luxury that top people want.”

According to Times Online, Abedian is seriously planning ways to cool the sand to try and keep visitors from burning their feet:

The beach will have a network of pipes beneath the sand containing a coolant that will absorb heat from the surface.
The swimming pool will be refrigerated and there are also proposals to install giant blowers to waft a gentle breeze over the beach.

The scheme is likely to infuriate environmentalists

Pearl Edie Thompson

I'm a bit late with this post, but better late than never. Here is Miss Pearl Thompson. What a cutie and what a great name. She's with Lyndsay (mom) and Grace (big sis - look at her eyelashes!). We saw them on the weekend at a party and Pearl slept like a champion while people were talking loudly around. And she's even cuter in the flesh. Think I am going for a play date tomorrow - if i get all my house keeping done - can't wait.

Wilfie and Nell

We don't really get pubs here, unfortunately. This one is cute. New and Irish. In the West Village. Looks like it might be good to pop in for a nibble if we are shopping that way.

Floods in Venice

Happening at the moment. I had no idea. Apparently rather routine, but looks mighty odd and I'm sure glad I'm not there on holiday. Be a bit annoying, wouldn't it?

Vinegar Hill House

For when I need a place to eat in Brooklyn. This looks rather nice. And wintery-cosy.

Bedspread

Ok. I'm back and thought it was time I started to post again. Lot's to post on Oz, but before I download the photos I thought I would share this gorgeous bedspread I am desperate for. It was in the new Domino magazine and I love it. Now I just have to find it. The stockist they listed said its an old one, so if anyone see's anything like this, let me know ASAP.
